Strengthening cluster collaboration through strategic internationalisation

Capacity-building webinar on 14 September 2021

As vaccines are rolled out and cross-borders traffic increases again, there are growing opportunities for European businesses in new markets across countries. In this context, internationalisation does not only mean going back to the old normal before the Covid-19 pandemic. It will also imply grasping new business opportunities. Business and clusters can benefit from the rapid digitisation during the last year, where it was a necessity to maintain and create new business contact from remote. Going forward, these experiences will facilitate the creation of linkages between actors in different countries.

The internationalisation of cluster organisations can help businesses, especially SMEs, to improve their competitiveness and maximise their presence in global value chains. Successful internationalisation must be strategic, choosing the right markets, the fitting activities, and the suitable partners to make it happen. To support this process, cluster organisations should focus on how they can help their members and their ecosystem to go international and thrive abroad. In line with this, cluster managers identified internationalisation as a key objective, but also as a challenge in the Needs Survey launched by the ECCP in late 2020.

This ECCP capacity-building webinar brings new knowledge on how clusters can be more strategic when it comes to internationalisation. It will present examples where clusters have acted as key facilitators in getting their members abroad, and it will show how cluster organisations can get support for their internationalisation activities.
